Monumental Renaissance sideboard in black oak. The lower cabinet has figural caryatids flanking a focal, relief carved door with various flora, game birds and wheat fronds. The caryatids give rise to an ample serving and carving surface from which rise a pair of fleur de lis capped, fluted columns that lift etagere shelving from a massive back panel adorned with lion masks, c-scrolls, swirling acanthus leaves and fruit swags culminating in a dramatic, open pediment top with a focal cassoulet draped with fruited garlands. This cabinet is a tour de force of a master carver’s prowess and was originally in a chateau in central France. Circa 1870.
