Gothic Revival roll top desk in oak. Lancet arch adorned with stylized spires and tracery open to reveal fitted drawers. The ample desk surface is served by a series of eight fitted linenfold drawers. Further tracery and quatrefoil panels adorn virtually every square inch of surface and the desk stands as a veritable monument to the style. French, circa 1880. In nearly five decades of buying, selling and researching fine furniture, we have only ever seen one other Gothic desk of this size and quality. It was in the Louvre. It was not for sale.
